Steve then spent 5 years on the SWAT team, during this time he was involved in executing high risk search warrants, barricaded persons, hostage situations, suicide by cops and assisting patrol on high crime areas. Steve was then assigned to Narcotics where he spent 23 years.

Steve spent the first 4 years in narcotics working undercover posing as a drug dealer or a drug addict. During this time Steve was responsible for purchasing street and mid-level amounts of narcotics, while working up to the major dealers.

Steve spent 20 years assigned as a Task Force Officer assigned to the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Waco Treasury Task Force. Steve worked on 12 Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) cases to include cases against the Los Zetas and Gulf Cartels. These cases were complex money laundering investigations resulting in the seizure of millions of dollars of cash and assets.

For over ten (10) years Steve investigated drug-related overdose deaths involving victims as young as 14 years of age to 65 years of age. Steve used cellphone and computer evidence to track the drug dealers and was able to make the arrest of the drug dealers responsible for the deaths and charge them in Federal or State court. This led to Steve being nominated for and winning the 2014 Irving Police Officer of the Year.

Steve is a member of the Irving Police Department Peer support team and is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management and helps assist the counselors on training police officers and firefighters on the stresses of the job as well as suicide prevention.

In October 2019 Steve became certified as fatal overdose prevention instructor with the University of Texas School of Nursing. Prior to Covid, Steve was instructing law enforcement officers across Texas on how to administer Narcan to overdose victims, as well as providing free Narcan to the officers.

Steve has been an instructor for 21 years and was hired in January 2020 by Professional Law Enforcement Training (PLET). Steve has instructed thousands of police officers, firefighters, and prosecutors from all over the Nation about Basic Narcotic Investigations, Drug Identification, Controlling and Managing Informants, Courtroom Survival, Advanced Search and Seizure, Drafting Narcotic Search Warrants, Patron Saints of Narco Traffickers, Mexican Drug Cartels, Fighting Fentanyl and Semisynthetic Opiates and Overdose Death Investigations.
