Cryptocurrency crimes continue to evolve as more and more criminals utilize bitcoin and altcoins to carry out their illicit activities. These crimes range from trafficking activities on the dark web to fraudulent activity and scams on regulated cryptocurrency exchanges. There has also been a tremendous uptick in criminals using NFT’s and staking platforms to launder proceeds of criminal activity.
The Advanced Cryptocurrency Investigations course is designed to prepare law enforcement officials to conduct these complex investigations. In-depth information will be presented on the most current cryptocurrency crimes with successful case studies to show how criminals can be positively identified and prosecuted.
Token swaps, coinjoins, bridges, and mixing services are becoming increasingly popular with criminals to attempt to obfuscate their cryptocurrency. Information will be presented on the most common types of token swaps, coinjoins and mixing services and techniques to identify when a criminal is using these services on the blockchain. Information will be presented on advanced heuristics to successfully track the transactions.
Real-life case studies and practical exercises will be used throughout the course. Class participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops; however, laptops will be provided to all that do not have access to theirs. This course emphasizes advanced blockchain analytics and tracking. Class participants will be provided with access to CT Pro, a powerful blockchain analytical tool to complete the course practicals. If students have access to a different blockchain analytical tool, they can use that tool to complete the course practical exercises.
Class participants must have completed a basic cryptocurrency investigations course or experience with blockchain analytics to register for this course.
